Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Just wanted to wish all of you a happy thanksgiving and happy shopping on Black Friday!!!
Minutes of the Annual meeting - 11/21/2010
Members present : Prajakta, Ashwini, Bakul, Shaifali, Supraja, Divya
Venue : Divya's house
Agenda : Grand celebration of Portland Saheli's first anniversary and fufilling
long pending agenda of taking a group snap!
At the meeting : Being the first anniversary/birthday, we had to cut a cake and like any
other American birthday ordered pizzas and coke. But Portland Saheli still
has a unique ishtyle in that we all dressed desi and played a fun board game
over .....no prizes for guessing ...CHAI!!!
Resolved : To Contribute inputs to the blog as often as possible or at least one post a
month.
To hold meet -ups at regular intervals like every month and proceed
with the meet-up as long as there is an attendance of at least two members.
To resume book discussions at each meeting.
To expand our Saheli family.
To explore possibilities for volunteering/social work opportunities.
Next Meeting : December 2010 at Supraja's house.

Portland Saheli is one year old!!!
Hip Hip Hooray!
Congratulations to all the PS Members for being together in our 14 month old journey..
Yes, we completed a year and are now in our second year of togetherness..
Laughter,sharing, night outs, book discussions, social issues, and new ventures-- it has been a wonderful year!
As I look back, last year when I had started it, I wanted to create a platform where we wives could come up and do something different apart from our household and family commitments! Its wonderful to be a wife, caregiver, homemaker but to have a support system right there means a lot..helping ladies venture into the American world not alone..
Thanks Divya for hosting our Annual event!
We discussed some crucial steps for a more regular meet up every month which will be noted in a separate section.
All members are encouraged to post one post every month to feel connected to the PS world!
Thank you for all the fun times that we spend together!

Its again that time of the year that reminds us of the approaching winter, time to dress up your kids in fun costumes.....and as your kids grow...watch them independently make fashion statements!! Halloween can also be an occasion to let your wild side take over and explore the crazy costume scenario here in the US. Have fun ladies.....and happy "trick or treating" !!

Happy Friendship Day!!
Happy Friendship Day Sahelis!! Remember those days of "friendship bands" ....."Friends Forever cards" ....those days when your girlfriends were be and end all of your world!!:-) What happened to those days....seems like a different era now!! How soon time flies.....how soon we grow out of an idyllic world into a world of responsibilities!!! Thanks to days like these and blogs/groups like these ...we can re-awaken the 'little girl' ....that we once were and in a way will always be!! Have fun girls!!!

Yippie!!!!!Summer is finally here and in full swing too..... I've been trying hard to avoid complaining about the scorching heat in Portland in the last few days:-) ....Nazar na lag Jaye!!!
I just thought we could all benefit from each others travel/trip plans. Also we can post whatever queries we may have ...as we are planning a trip....and seek suggestions from someone who has already "been there and done that"...to whatever extent possible/ safe to discuss on the blog.
I recently did a week long trip to the East coast ( Niagara, New York and Boston)....so I have lots free advice to give if anyone of you is planning to head there !!:-)
I am planning a trip to Crater Lake ...and was wondering where to stay as I heard there is only one lodge at the Crater Lake national park which requires months' in advance reservation ( which we've obviously not done) ...so are there any other places near by where you guys have been and found decent enough for a night's stay?
Let me know guys..."experience" is always valued!!!:-)

-To be able to host a get-together
-To add contributions on the blog- for restaurants to try & places to visit
-You can bring your baby/child for the get together. We usually get together at times when kids have their daycare but if your child doesn't attend one or is too small,then also you are welcome to join.
Leave Policy:
If you are out of town/ country for 2-3 months (like) or are having a baby or have any other commitments and need a break, you are welcome to stay connected and get back when you are ready!

Great going Shaifali
Hey all,
It was great seeing this started off by Shaifali...I know I was supposed to do this, but have been a little busy of late :) I just wanted to know if you all are up for the meet on the 18th. If you all could let me know if this date suits you, I could start planning. If not 18th, 21st also works well for me.

Tulip Festival: Fantastic Place For Pictures and some fun family time. Though I recommend even once is enough. It happens every year.
Portland Rose Festival: Must attend. Fun rides and shows in Portland Downtown Riverside- in end May/Early Jan.
Portland Downtown Farmers Market: Fun family place for family grocery, some nice live music and food!
Portland Spirit Cruise: Great for couples.We celebrated our 6 months anniversary 5 years ago!!

Coining of the name
There were some great suggestions by the group members. Finally we all decided on the name "Portland Saheli" coined by Divya! Thanks Divya. This was done in Feb 2010.
What is Portland Saheli? History..
Started in September 2009 by Shaifali at home.
I started this get together purely with the aim of having a wives get together during the day. My aim was to have a fun time which is also purposeful.at the same time. My ultimate dream is to take this forward where we could actively associate ourselves with some social cause. Right now, we all are in a phase in our lives where we are either studying/creating families/in jobs/or NGOs etc. So, my vision is for the future is to be able to have more time to devote to such constructive endeavours.Till then, we bank on whatever we share! Thanks to all the group members who have taken the time, effort and most importantly interest to get this going!
